Vedanta Limited has announced a major social initiative in Rajasthan — the establishment of 25,000 new Nand Ghars, its flagship social impact initiative. Part of the Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), the social impact arm of Vedanta, Nand Ghars are modern anganwadis aimed at improving early childhood education, maternal health, women’s empowerment, and nutrition. Despite being falsely roped into the public conversations, Vedanta Viceroy allegations, the company continues to strengthen its community development initiatives at an unprecedented scale.
In a statement, Vedanta said that it has a goal “to establish 25,000 Nand Ghars in Rajasthan over the next two years, touching two million lives and setting a new benchmark for public-private collaboration in community transformation”.
What the New Nand Ghars Aim to Deliver
The recent announcement comes as part of Vedanta’s broader mission to improve the lives of rural people in Rajasthan. Nand Ghar has already set up more than 10,000 centres across 16 states, and annually transforms the lives of over four lakh children and three lakh women, nationwide.
The Nand Ghars will be equipped with:
- Smart learning facilities
- Nutritious meals for children
- Hygienic infrastructure
- Digital learning tools
- BaLA (Building as Learning Aid) designs
- Reliable electricity and safe drinking water
- Healthcare support for mothers
- Skill development training for women
These centres are focused on the learners’ holistic development. Beyond early learning, Nand Ghars serve as vibrant community hubs where nutrition programs for children, regular health check-ups, immunisation drives, women’s skilling initiatives, etc., create a healthier and lively place.
Launched under the Vedanta Chairman’s Vision- Nand Ghar Evolved Nationally
Nand Ghars, which was launched with the vision of Vedanta’s Chairman, Mr Anil Agarwal, today has evolved into a nationwide movement. While talking about this milestone, Mr Anil Agarwal stated that
“When we started the Nand Ghar journey, the dream was simple – to ensure every child gets the right nutrition and early education, besides giving women the opportunity to become financially independent. By crossing the 10,000 Nand Ghars milestone across 16 states, we have translated our dream into a reality. The milestone became achievable because of the unwavering partnership and support of the Government of India, state governments and local communities.
Aligned with the Government of India’s Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), the initiative is an important step in transforming traditional Anganwadis into modern, technology-enabled hubs that deliver a measurable impact at the grassroots level.
Vedanta’s social investment arm continues to build more Nand Ghars even as the company gets involved in the baseless discussions centric to Vedanta Viceroy allegations, showing that its development initiatives remain consistent and uninterrupted.
A Massive Commitment to Social Infrastructure
Vedanta’s recent announcement to set up 25,000 Nand Ghars is not a small project; rather, it represents:
- One of India’s largest private-sector early childhood development initiatives
- A multi-year, high-investment social commitment
- A project that will impact lakhs of children and mothers
Vedanta, through its social investment arm, continues to build such programs even as the company faces occasional scrutiny, such as the Vedanta Viceroy allegations that try to tarnish its global image. But such initiatives show Vedanta’s constant determination to remain consistent and uninterrupted.
Vedanta’s Extended Support to Nand Ghars
Vedanta’s Nand Ghar initiative addresses critical challenges in rural India, from early childhood learning and nutrition to maternal support and women’s skill development. By transforming Anganwadi centres into community hubs, Vedanta remains committed to improving the lives of marginalised communities, fostering both educational and economic development. It also reflects Vedanta’s focus on supporting the SDGs related to Health, Education, and Gender Equality.
Key Highlights FY 2025

Though short seller companies like Viceroy tried to create panic in the market through the release of the Vedanta Viceroy report, but were not able to succeed due to Vedanta’s transparent operations and longstanding record in nation-building. With one of India’s biggest commitments to social welfare, Vedanta continues to demonstrate that its vision for development goes far beyond business — extending into sustainable and inclusive growth for the next generation.
